It took us nearly 12 years to finally have Lancaster Mk.III JB659 OF-J of 97 Squadron recovered by the Royal Netherlands Air Force Recovery team. We were very happy when the recovery started on May 29th 2000.
Here you will find the first photographs taken on June 13, when we returned from the U.K.
The Recovery Team expects to need at least another week to search the taken out soil.
So far 11 propellers, 3 engines, dinghies, 6 crates and one container full have been taken out.
But the most important thing: human
remains have been found of more then one person.
It is now a fact that the human remains will be buried on 29 November 2001 with full military honours.
This link will take you to the RAF site which contains further details, of the funeral as well.
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
The barn is being demolished in the weeks before the recovery
